I am the manifestation of my parents and grandparents’ prayers and dreams.
I am from Southern California: Azusa, Moval, and the I.E.
I am from the Philippines: Teacher’s Village and Pagsanjan Laguna.
I am from sinigang, chicharron, chicken joy with extra rice please.
I am from karaoke nights, mahjong marathons, and daily dancing.
I am from my resilient family whose joy fuels my journey.
I am from a colonized community who refuses to let the colonizer have the final say.
I am from the perseverance and endurance of my ancestors.
I am from the struggle of my parents moving to the United States 30 years ago.
I am from the dreams of my parents moving to the United States 30 years ago.
I am from the love of my partner, my family, and my tribe.
I am the embodiment of a Pinay learner who seeks to create a safer and just world for future generations.
I am peace.
I am joy.
I am love.
I am knowledge.
I am a positive force.
I am powerful.
